Modern Art

Gene Davis' Untitled (Apr 07)

Stripes

As a maths student, most art I run into is in the Maths block or related buildings.  It just so happened that University House was en route to my Modern Control Theory exam, and after a few hours of revision I went for a wander.  I've been there before, but it never ceases to amaze me just how bad some of these paintings are.  And it seems that the worse the painting, the more seriously they are taken by whoever gets the job of labelling them.

I looked the picture of a studious... er... student as I scribbled down the various details of the original label, and came back the next day with a rapidly churned out replacement.  It transpired that I was spotted by a friend, Hazel, who was completely taken in by the official why-shouldn't-I-be-cutting-round-notices-with-a-stanley-knife? stance I assumed.  I did more research on this artist than on previous occasions.  Did you know Gene Davis is responsible for the largest piece of art in the world?  Apparently a piece called Niagara, which I can't find a picture of.
