MEDICASE

A new concept for fully integrated, quality assured transportation of

   sensitive medical items.

            This project is designed to

          reduce the wastage currently

              a necessary part of

               transporting medical items,

      and to ensure that samples

        arrive at their destination

unspoiled by fluctuating temperatures, high acceleration, humidity or air pressure.  The prototype I have been helping to build will monitor factors like the temperature,

Part of my work was to develop and test a system for achieving temperature control using a Peltier chip and a store of ice in the box.

The idea was to allow the payload to cool down by conduction from the ice into the air in the payload area, and in the event that the payload got too cold,

the Peltier would create a temperature difference between the ice and the payload area, simultaneously heating the payload and cooling the ice.  The overall effect of the project is to dramatically reduce the EUR 65bn currently lost in mislaid or damaged shipments of medical supplies in the EU.
